Description

The Shift by Andrea Mowry is a smartly designed, textured cowl that is worked flat and then sewn together creating a unique shape that sits beautifully around the neck. In this workshop, students will be knitting a "Mini-Shift" to learn all the skills needed to knit a full-sized Shift. Students will learn the knitted i-cord, how to slip stitch (mosaic knitting), weaving in ends properly, the i-cord bind off, and the mattress stitch for sewing your Shift together. Students will be shown how to block The Shift as well. This workshop is limited to 8 students. (Instructor: Lynne)

Prerequisite Skills: long-tail cast on, knit stitch and purl stitch

Materials:
  • 1 "Knit The Shift Kit" which contains 3 colors of Zauberball Starke 6.(75 grams per color). The kit is $50 retail.
  • Size US 5 needles (straight or circular) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Highlighting tape (to mark rows) is highly recommended.
Prep Work: Please check your gauge by making a gauge swatch but DO NOT cut your yarn or block your swatch (you will be reusing this yarn). Your gauge should be 25 stitches = 4" in stockinette stitch (unblocked). Do not block your gauge. Adjust your needle size if necessary so you get gauge. If you are unsure how to make or measure a proper gauge swatch, please contact the store for guidance.
